Saturday rule

No home improvement project, no matter how simple, no matter how small, can be completed without at least two trips to Lowes.

Christian spirit

I was at the light, and the car in front of me had three bumper stickers. On one side, it said, "Jesus is Lord." On the other side, it said, "Christ is the answer." And in the middle, it said, "Don't tailgate me or I'll flick a booger on your windshield." I wish I were making this up.

Youth soccer started today

Our daughter's first soccer game of the season was today. Her team won 2-1. She didn't want to play last fall, and I gotta tell you, I really missed it. I really missed going out there, sitting in one of those ... what do you call them? Those chairs that fold up so you can carry them in a bag. Sitting there on a cool spring morning, drinking coffee from a travel mug, smelling the newly cut grass and watching the game. It doesn't get much better than that.

Portrait

This is from a painting by a folk artist from Oviedo, Fla., named Carl Knickerbocker. I bought the original from him at a folk art festival in Orlando a few years ago. The full painting shows an aligator about to eat a business man wearing mouse ears. It says a lot about how a lot of locals feel about the Mouse.

What is a sonker?

"Sonker" is a Southern word for a deep-dish pie or cobbler.
